Hi W279 Family!

It has been such an awesome and meaningful weekend! Thanks and KUDOS to all of you for your commitment, willingness to wake up early, to travel the distance, braving the rain in the early morning and to queue up together for the various services! You guys are awesome! :)

CHC is now 21 years of 'age', and I believe as a church, as a CG and as an individual, it marks a whole new phase of LOVE, maturity and new things for us all!

Cheers to the next 21 years of goodness! God is faithful and good ALL THE TIME! :) Lets keep loving the House of God!

Here's an update about the next few CG meetings ...

1) This Sunday's CGM will be a combined one with W415 (Kelvin's & Joel's current CG) @ The Riverwalk Lecture Room 7. Don't miss it!

2) Next weekend (Jul 30 - Aug 1), we will be having Festival of Praise (Fri & Sat) @ Indoor Stadium, while our CHC ANNIVERSARY is held on Sunday! There will be NO CGM that Sun (Aug 1).

3) OUR MULTIPLICATION is happening sooner than you imagine and expect. So the weeks of August, please come for all the CGMs as we prepare ourselves for the wonderful multiplication!

Suntec! Here we come!

Dear W279,

It is been long since I last updated the blog. Haha!

Today, service with Pastor Phil was great. I believe many of you enjoy the preaching, let us face trials and tribulations with a right attitude , 'eat' them and grow strong.

After service, we have a good fellowship at Suntec city where the church is moving to in 8 months time. Had dinner at Marina Square, and Karuna through many 'tribulations' finally got her camera. Running up and down the whole Suntec, through the crowded PC show, to withdraw money to pay the camera after realizing that she can't pay by NETS. Then running back to realized she didn't draw enough and thus run back to ATM.

While the sisters are accompanying Karuna to buy the camera, the brothers have a good time at Marina square as they trace back the childhood memories of the favourite cartoon 'Doraemon'.

Lastly, we gathered back together to the arcade and played DDR. Haha! And had a good time...

This EASTER has been a BLAST with a total of 34 new friends who came to join us for our Life-book production! Thanks for making IT happening, guys!

Now that EASTER is over, we have MANY exciting things coming up NEXT, in fact, happening this very weekend!

SATURDAY:

1) Bazaar @ Service One!

This Saturday, there will be a Bazaar happening and going on right after our own Service at JW Church!

If you remember our 'W279 Paraphernalia' from last year, it's gonna be something like what we had, except it's gonna be bigger and more exciting this round!

Our Cell Group will be setting up a stall of our own called 'All @ Eight' - which is gonna be as cool as it sounds! So do prepare do bring along all your secondhand goods (those in new/good condition) to sell @ the bazaar!

Lets invite our friends for this Saturday's service & there after the very-happening Bazaar!

SUNDAY FUN @ JURONG WEST (3-IN-1):

As mentioned in the previous post, we've lined up a series of exciting events this Sunday for all our members and friends!

1) U-Fit Captain's Ball with Kel Zone!

2) Service at Jurong West Church!

(For our friends who won't be able to make it for our Saturday service, get them to join us for Sunday Service instead!)

3) Poolside BBQ at Floravale Condominium (Just a 7 mins bus-ride away from JW Church!)

Like what Pastor mentioned, one of the many competitions coming up this Asia Conference is WORD POWER!

It's basically a competition that requires us to memorize the verses accurately and know the bible well!

Lets ALL be involved in this and start memorizing the verses!

besides the great peachers that we gonna have this weekend, THE NEXT BIG THING is our very own KEL zone sports event U-FIT that is going to happen this week! It will be a 3-weeks series of sports competitions (3-on-3 Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee & Captain's ball!) happening after our Saturday Services for the next three weeks (20/03, 27/03 & 10/03) !

Our CG will be participating in ALL THREE sports! Thanks to everyone for your participation & enthusiasm!

The whole event will be kickstarting THIS SATURDAY with 3-on-3 Basketball!

Dear ALL:

Lets get ready for service this weekend because Dr. Cesar Castellanos will be coming to preach!

Dr. Cesar Castellanos is the pastor of one of the biggest churches with over 150 thousand members just in Bogota, Columbia. Heard of the G12 Vision? He's the key person who started it and is influencing the WHOLE world!

As Dr. Cesar will ONLY be preaching at SERVICE ONE (Sat 3.30pm), there will be 'gatecrashers' from other services! So lets meet earlier than usual and be prepared for it!

Last but not least, our VERY OWN favourite PST. TAN will be preaching at the remaining services! If you are a lover of his sermons (like me), do make time to go for multiple service (on Sunday)!

It's gonna be an exciting week ahead!

our very first Kel Zone outreach event of the year FOOD-TOGENIC is just three days away!!

Program highlights: Lots of Food & photos-taking (that's why it's Food-togenic!); running about SUNTEC solving 'riddles'; awesome prizes; ZONE-DINNER to end off the day... and many more!

Meeting time & venue: 1.00pm at City Hall Control Station

Colour code: BLACK! (for our CG only!)

Things to bring: Camera (Needed for the game), yourself & YOUR FRIENDS!

Other things to note:

Do eat something light beforehand! Though you can be ensured you'll get to EAT during the game itself.
For those who can't make it for Sat Service and are going for Sun service - do make arrangements to go for Expo Service at 10 A.M. so can you come down for the event after that. :) Any problems let us know!

On the day itself, our cg will be divided into teams for the game...
and so may the BLACK TEAMS win!

Dear Members, Ex-members, Friends and Foes,

I have been very disturbed (of late) by what some of the people are commenting (actually, gossiping, backstabbing & murmuring!) ... They have such flawed ideas of a "perfect cell group" (they think we already are in a perfect heaven, perhaps?), and about "our CG" in particular. Now, it has spurred me on to write this post. Time for me to clarify and to speak my mind!

WHAT IS A CELL GROUP?

Acts 2:46 "So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart."

Heb. 10:35 "Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing, instead let us encourage one another all the more since you see the day of the LORD is coming near."

SO, what is a CG?

In its simplest form, it is a group made up of different people with diverse backgrounds, personalities, upbringing, character traits, and habits (the list goes on ...). The CG allows us to bond and form friendships in a setting that's smaller and more comfortable than a church-service context (especially in a megachurch like ours!). The Cell Group is a platform for ongoing discipleship (for us to learn to better our lives and become more and more like Christ), for fellowship (friendship, companionship, encouragement, support, fun, tough times, and the list goes on ...). IT gives us a sense of belonging. And we create that sense of belonging. Most importantly, like in our family, a CG is made of imperfect people who are learning (and struggling) to become better and to become more Christlike.

WHAT A CELL GROUP IS NOT ...

It is not your main source. Outside of your CG, you still must maintain your family life, social life, education/work life. As much as CG seeks to be your source of support, it is NOT MEANT TO BE (AND NEVER WILL BE) like "GOD"---perfect, always your source of dependence, always unfailing. Dr. Ed Cole said "Balance is the key to life." Thus, as much as CG is meant to be a blessing and joy, it will never fulfill you completely. Thus, do not be disillusioned, and set yourself up for disappointment.

As mentioned above, CG is made up of imperfect people, starting with the CGLs (Kel & Cyn) to the CGCS, down to the newest and youngest member. CG is a place we allow each other to fail and fall, learn and grow. We don't condemn each other nor do we despise each other ...

Prov. 27:17 "People learn from one another. Just as iron sharpens iron."

The CG is never meant to be a vending machine. You put in a coin (you join the CG) and expect to get a can of drink (fulfill your "thirst" and desire). It is not a country club (you join as an exclusive member), and expect exclusive treatment and rights. Rather, a CG is a family, where everyone must play a part to make that family work. It starts with the parents (who provide, nurture, and seek to do what the best can) ... and goes down to the youngest child (who seeks to be easy, and to live in harmony and bond with his siblings).

DO NOTE ...

You can have the most fun-loving CG, yet not enjoy and feel that it doesn't suit you.

You can have a CG that's not so outgoing, always quiet, and you feel it is too boring.

There's no one-size-fits-all. You learn to grow and "fit" into it.

It is your attitude towards CG ... it is your attitude towards life ... it is your attitude about everything ... that makes CG wonderful to you.

WITH REGARDS TO HELPERS, CGCS, BIRTHDAY COORDINATORS & OTHER MEMBERS WHO SERVE IN CG ...

These are your fellow brothers and sisters (friends) who are in a sense "volunteers". They don't get paid to do their job. They do it out of love for you. ON your Birthdays (for instance), they coordinate, they take precious time off to buy the present, they spend hours doing your card ... whether you like it or not. They bothered. Lesson #1: If you have an issue in your own life, deal with it first.

Many times, it's so easy for us to become victims of our own circumstances. And then we develop a victim's mentality ("So-and-so caused me to be like that. Cell Group is not good enough for me ..." And the likes). Who likes to be a victim? When you are like that, you feel miserable. Isn't it true?

Guys, let's always do a heart check. If there is something wrong in our hearts, deal with it first. START THERE.

Have you realised, in every situation that you are in, every Cell Group you go to ... if you always have a problem with it .... Well, the COMMON DENOMINATOR is you? Maybe it's ourselves that we need to sort out first.

No one is responsible for YOUR HAPPINESS. You are responsible for your own happiness.

Self-Evaluation Time:

1) Have you found yourself often feeling bitter about people & things?
2) Have you found yourself easily trying to sow discord?
3) Are all your friends around you (whom you consider friends) having same thoughts as you?

Well if your answer is "YES" to all the above, then you know what, time to do a self-check and realise that you do have an issue.

"Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life."

Guys, where you are a year from now will largely be due to:

1) Thoughts you allow in your mind every day;

Hello FAMILY!

Why, but it's me again!

Had a thought, and yes, we're gonna put it into action!

With Chinese New Year coming up ... Kel & I are planning for something meaningful we can do this Lunar New Year as a CG.

As such, do note that next Saturday (Feb 6), we are planning to do HOME VISITATIONS to the elderly at some rundown areas in Singapore, after our service!

I'm working with the Dialect Ministry staff for possible venues we can visit.

Stay tuned for more details!

Hope you're looking forward to visit some of these elderly, who are really lonely and in desperate need. Let's make a difference, as a CG, and spread the joy of God!

This is a "study" period ...

While we want you to excel at school work, at the same time, we want you to also know the Word of God. You shall know and apply the truth of God's Word, and God's Word will set you free!

Personally, I've heard of good testimonies of how Bible Study lessons have helped some of our members grow, and change! So for the rest of you who are NOT YET attending any Bible Study course, it's time to join the rest of us :)

Options for you:

1) Personal Bible Study Classes --- Currently, Joel, Weiyang, Emily & Cynthia are giving on a weekly basis. Let us know what works for you. We'll arrange!

2) NEW Mass Bible Study Classes coming up! --- JW (after S1 service) or at the Riverwalk (for those of you who are at the "higher" levels). Emily will personally contact you guys. Bible Study will be very good for you! Please sign up :)

3) KEL Zone leaders are giving Mass Bible Study classes too. Please find out from Emily.

With so many options made available for you, there's really no reason why you can't have B.S. Do let us know what works for you. And let's get to know God's Word more!

Christmas Drama Aftermath

Woo! Today Christmas service is fantastic. The drama team never fail to impress us.

And we would like to welcome a few of our new friends: Jor Yeong, Shu yi, Chang Cun, Vernon, Naphtali, Yu man, Yu ling, Zhi hui and Kenneth=)

Here are somethings that we do after the drama:

Wow! We are able to finish the tub of ice-cream within 10 minutes and our proud record makers for this are: Elton, Shu yi, Desmond, Shyang Zhi, Chong Ming, Bryan and Wei yang...

While we are creating record for ice-cream eating, There are some playing Mono-poly cards which is super fun=)
Also at the same time, the sisters are having some 'chit-chat' session=)

All in all, the day is great with Basket ball and Line catching to round up the day. And Merry Christmas to all. =)

Our little astro boy is throwing a B'day party @ his house this Wed evening, 7:30 p.m. Let's make it a big one for our dashing young man!

Christmas Services
There is only ONE service at JW on Dec 24th, 4:30 p.m. The other services are at EXPO.
The second service is at Expo @ 7:30 p.m.
On Dec 25th, we have two services at 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.
Invite your friends to join us for ANY of these services! I'll be at ALL.
Weiyang has 6 - 7 friends personally! Woo!! You rock, man!

Making a difference!

Dear W279,

I have a story to share with you. It is about an ordinary man who have in God and believe that he make a difference.

Everywhere he goes he tries to get people saved by preaching Jesus them. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes not. There are times where he was arrested by the authority of state, there are times where he was been mocked at, there are times where the people whom he is preaching to, persecuted him and call him a blasphemer, sometimes even his fellow believers persecuted him. However, all these that he experienced did not hold him back. He continued to preach and tell people about Jesus, he strongly believes that every one that got saved through him preaching to them, he is making a difference. And guess what? He is indeed making a difference. Though some did not get save immediately, there is a seed sow into their life which will bloom forth one day, and he is one who sowed and made a difference.

Guys, though it is less than 5 days before Utribe on Sunday. Let’s not be discouraged, continue to invite our friends for the event. I know that many of you have been trying to invite your friends, let’s keep on keeping on and believe that we can make a difference in this world without vision. I believe we can do it! We are making a difference!

I've been receiving the updates from MOST of you (90%) ... just wanna say, keep up the good work!

Just wanna encourage you guys ... when reading the Bible, try to read more than a chapter because you need to give room and time for the Holy Spirit to give you a revelation from His Word! When you just rush through for the sake of completing your "part" for today ... it's not gonna benefit you. Likewise, for your prayer time.

I am certain you will encounter GOD!

It's gonna be a great weekend. Keep your hearts open to the Holy Spirit!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (ALL MUST READ)

Dear family,

building up from various cg/service sermons the past few weeks, this is really a season whereby God is drawing us as a cell group to go back to the foundation of knowing God and loving His Word. More than just being hearers of the Word, lets really be doers - and of such, Cyn & Kel have decided to start a 'Spiritual Thermometer Report' System, to keep track of all of our spiritual lives.

It is in fact, something many of us used to be involved in years back, whereby we'll faithfully submit and report to our cgl our prayer time/bible reading progress. And by doing this, we grew stronger in our walk with God.

How does this Spiritual Thermometer System work?

Starting from THIS WEEK, we'll be looking into these two important things, whereby YOU have to faithfully and personally report and update us on a DAILY BASIS (Meaning, EVERYDAY):

1. YOUR PRAYER LIFE: Prayer time - How many minutes/hours you have prayed/will pray today? (E.g. 15 minutes, 45 minutes...)

2. YOUR WORD LIFE: Bible-reading chapters - Which specific book and chapters you have/will read today? (E.g. Matthew Ch 1-5, Psalms 50 - 60 etc.)

Starting from today (Wednesday 12 Nov), can all of you SMS and update me (EMILY) FAITHFULLY on these two things, everyday by 10pm?

And to add, EVERYONE is involved in this as long as you are part of W279. Even the CGCS ourselves will be personally reporting to Cyn & Kel directly DAILY.

Don't be pressurized, but lets not also regard this as yet another casual thing or system to follow. The purpose of this whole system is to help us grow as a CG to be serious about our daily walk with God. PRAYER and WORD life are two important areas of our Christian life, which should already be a daily-lifestyle. :) BUT It's never too late to start.... it takes just a decision!

So dear W279, can I trust you to be faithful and INITIATIVE to update me everyday? I'd need your cooperation because I'll be submitting your reports to Cyn & Kel on a daily basis too. If not, at your own risk, be PREPARED to have your inbox flooded by ME personally. I'll be chasing you wherever you are, for sure! :)

Lets UP our prayer and word life! It is gonna be an EXCITING season of growth!

Guys..Pls really pray for our dearest Superstar Kelvin..

Please really pray for Wisdom, supernatural strength,divine health,good result...and whatever the Holy Spirit leads you to pray for kelvin..

Really pray that Kelvin will have a greater capacity..I will briefly tell you what Kelvin is gonna do next week..
